I've been wanting to paint this scene from Martha's Vineyard for YEARS... It's from a photo I took 15 years ago and one I keep putting aside for "some day". This week, I had a long awaited break in my freelance work, so decided it was "the day" to have fun with this picture. I enjoyed it so much, I started working on it again, on a larger canvas. I really like the misty atmosphere in this sunset/seascape. It was fun for me to paint the silhouette of the fishing boat... I gave just enough info to capture the guys in the boat...

"Portuguese Water Dog"

I love these wonderful shaggy dogs... I try to offer at least one dog each week in my ebay store, and try to come up with breeds that are a little less common, and stand out from the crowd! With ther onset of the warmer weather, and thoughts of summer, I've been on a Chincoteague kick ( not to mention, I have a painting trip planned for Chinco in June.. Yea!!) Spring is always a busy time in my studio (I do a lot of wedding-related calligraphy and illustration), and when I find an hour or two in my busy day to paint, I want (need!) the subject matter to be a pleasant escape .... creating these landscapes is like meditation for me. One of my favorite subjects to paint is the marshes of Chincoteague , Va. They are endlessly interesting to me, and in my busy studio, always a welcome break to work on. They are as peaceful and theraputic to create as they are to view..... Hope you enjoy.
