"Laura in Kimono", WIP(work in progress)

16" x 20" , pastel on board

Two WIP's (works in progress) from this week of lovely Laura....a model I never get tired of painting. The picture below is the earlier stage, the top one, the later. Next week I'll finish the portrait and post...

  1. Great to see you’re using a camera capable of taking high res photos. Seeing your work up close, in exquisite detail, after the jump made the piece that much more impressive.

While you mentioned that this is a “work in progress", I really like that the canvas was left exposed. My eye is drawn inward, to the woman.

  2. Thx AMP.. I do use a nice Sony camera (10.1 megapixels) that enables me to take very crisp pictures, and get pretty accurate color in late afternoon, western light from my living room window! Regarding the "canvas left exposed" around the subject.. I did that on purpose in this painting, thinking that I will try to leave it unfinished looking in the background to contrast the more detailed face and robe I plan to do. I'm always attracted to that loose look.. I love the contrast and interst it creates.. Thx for your comments.. I appreciate them!
